Is coconut oil safe and healthy?
It isn’t easy to know how healthy a food is scientifically. It will require human trials in the long term.
Coconut oil is not something that volunteers will consume for less than a year. And obviously it is not going to do any good .The statement by a professor at a university that coconut oil is toxic makes no sense.
Coconut oil is the key
- Coconut oil is high in saturated fat. People should not consume coconut oil. Medium-chain fatty acids may have positive effects on the body. However, there is currently no scientific evidence to support this claim.

Coconut oil has been a superfood for a long. Some studies show that coconut oil can help reduce fat metabolism. The German Nutrition Society also supports this. Medium-chain fatty acids show positive results.
DGE estimates that 14 per cent of the saturated fatty acids in coconut oil are medium-chain fatty oils. The Federal Center for Nutrition forecasts that this figure could reach as high as 50%, with lauric acid the most significant.
Medium-chain fatty acids are either more easily broken down by the body than the long chain. The body quickly absorbs them without having to be broken down. Easy to digest medium-chain fatty acids are more common.
The blood level of “good” HDL cholesterol, which protects the vascular system, is increased by Lauric acid. It is unclear if the acid increases HDL cholesterol only or the less desirable LDL cholesterol.

Coconut oil is not particularly healthy. We can, however, make some general statements.
- We should avoid coconut oil for environmental reasons. They travel farther than domestic oils.
- Walnut, rapeseed and olive oils are better for your health. These oils contain valuable monounsaturated as well as polyunsaturated essential fatty acids. They are also cheaper than coconut oil.
- We can use coconut oil in moderation to enhance the flavour of Asian cuisines. It is best to use virgin coconut oil of organic quality and avoid using industrially processed coconut fat.

Coconut oil is high in saturated fatty acids but low in unsaturated. Unsaturated fatty acids should be a part of a healthy diet. Coconut oil contains many medium-chain fatty acids that are easy to digest, and our body can easily use them. But, no long-term studies support this theory. Coconut oil isn’t a magic cure for weight loss.
Coconut oil has wide use in Asian cuisines. For organic quality, it is pretty expensive at between 11 and 25 euros per litre. Walnut, rapeseed and olive oils are healthier fats, but they’re also less costly. Coconut palms cannot be grown outside of tropical regions, so their transportation routes can be challenging.
